The exhibition of Livestock gives Fair patrons the opportunity to explore farm animals up-close in an effort to educate the public on one of the many facets that make up our agricultural industry. These livestock events help to create the next generation of men and women in agriculture and by participating in these events, 4-H, FFA and Independent students not only have the opportunity to showcase and sell their animal projects, they also learn responsibility and gain agribusiness experience.
Livestock events take place in the Dairy Ring, Glacier Ring, Les McCabe Arena presented by American Ag Credit and the Hilmar Cheese Barn added in 2016.
FOR EXHIBITORS ONLY
What's New in Livestock
We have added a dairy goat show on Thursday June 11th. All goats will be housed at the fair all week and will arrive and leave with all other large livestock. Please see page 34 of the exhibitor handbook for information on this show.
We are now offering a educational display division for horse, rabbits/cavy, & poultry. This will be a way for exhibitors to showcase their projects that are not housed a the fair all week. Displays will be placed in an area of the fairgrounds for public viewing to educate on these species of animals. Page 46 of the exhibitor handbook has more information on this division.
The poultry show is cancelled for 2020. We will be offering showmanship only with a "stuffed" toy type bird being used. See below for more details on the Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND) update.
All elements of your livestock barn displays need to remain up until the livestock release at 2:00 AM Sunday morning. If you take down your club signs, stall cards, decorations, etc. before this time the club will be fined $100 and premium/auction checks will not be released until this fine is paid. Your stalls are displays for the public and need to be kept in place until the livestock release.
IMPORTANT | Poultry Show Information
On January 31, 2020, we received a letter from the State Veterinarian regarding the status of the Virulent Newcastle Disease (VND), which first had an outbreak in May 2018 in Southern California among the poultry population. Due to a recent flare-up of VND in Southern California, the State Veterinarian is advising that the poultry show be cancelled given our location nearby commercial poultry facilities. You may view the State Veterinarian letter here.
For more information on Newcastle disease, please visit the California Department of Food & Agriculture’s website at: www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/Animal_Health/newcastle_disease_info.html
We look forward to bringing back the poultry show in the future. For this year’s Fair, we are encouraging students to consider an alternate animal project such as rabbits for this year’s Fair.
