The dates have been selected so that the Merced County Fair will be held before the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton. This will allow the Merced County Fair to have Butler Amusements' carnival rides, many food concessions, commercial exhibits and entertainers that will be participating at the Bay Area fair.

The Merced County Fair was waiting to announce the fair dates until the Alameda County Fair selected their dates. Alameda County Fair's decision was awaiting word from the California Horse Racing Board and changes regarding horse racing because the San Joaquin County Fair in Stockton is moving to September.

In addition, 2012 is a leap year. The Merced County Fair will return with a 5-day fair , Wednesday, June 13 and run through Sunday, June 17. The Alameda County Fair is June 20-July 8.
